This project amended two federal USACE permits held by the Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston that authorize beach and dune restoration projects along the seawall and west of the seawall extending west to the San Luis Pass Inlet.
The project will feature an innovative design of a dynamic living shoreline protection system. This includes strategically placed nearshore segmented breakwaters and an enhanced shoreline with the creation of native marsh habitat.
This project will aim to develop concepts to protect, stabilize and enhancing critical coastal habitat and upland park infrastructure. Living shorelines, consisting of low crested rock or concrete breakwaters, shoreline fill (harvested from a nearby source), and planting, will be evaluated along with other potential alternative solutions such as groins and pocket beaches to achieve these goals.
Nueces River Authority will 1) acquire ~50 acres from the City of Robstown and ~250 acres from a private landowner; 2) procure an engineer to complete a feasibility study, alternatives analysis, and engineering designs for both properties.
This project completed final design and construction for multiple nesting island enhancements and oyster reef restoration of four sites in Jones Bay.
Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi will restore a comprehensive 30+ year dataset from the TCOON consisting of historical and current data along the entire Texas coast and develop automated tools for the purpose analyzing real-time TCOON data.
Galveston Bay Foundation will continue to expand the Oyster Shell Recycling Program and partner with University of Houston to analyze two reef restoration techniques.
This project completed engineering and design and construction of rookery island improvements at Benny’s Shack Southern Island by expanding the island by 2.9 acres and construct a 1,975 linear foot protective breakwater around the expanded area.
This project created approximately 12 miles of GIWW shoreline on each side of the waterway that the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.
