The GLO is partnering with Ducks Unlimited (DU) for the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge Shoreline Protection (Oyster Lake, Long Pond, Salt Lake Marsh) Project which will construct rock breakwaters along the GIWW adjacent to the Brazoria NWR.
This project constructed 3.5 miles of living shoreline rock breakwater along the northern and southern shorelines of the GIWW in the vicinity of Willow Lake and Star Lake adjacent to the McFaddin NWR and replaced a water control structure at Star Lake.
This project provided shoreline stabilization for Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge to prevent emergent and coastal prairie loss due to erosion along the GIWW.
This project developed performance expectations and established baseline criteria for general and site-specific project design, installation, and a monitoring plan to measure post-construction project performance success/failure on South Padre Island.
This project restored approximately 75 acres of intertidal marsh complex within Carancahua Cove at GISP through construction of 81 marsh mounds and 5,415 linear feet of rock breakwater.

This project was an erosion control demonstration project conducted with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers along Jefferson County’s Gulf of Mexico shoreline to evaluate the effectiveness of groins and beach nourishment in reducing erosion.
This project involved the beneficial use of dredged material from the Sabine-Neches Waterway. Approximately one million cubic yards of material were placed in marshes in the Texas Point National Wildlife Refuge, completed in December 2000.
