CMR. BUSH ANNOUNCES RECEIPT OF FEDERAL GRANT FOR GULF STATE COASTAL PROJECTS

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Texas General Land Office has received $46,313,471.21 in federal grant funding from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) to further support restoration of the Texas shoreline. "The revenue from GOMESA is crucial to enhancing and protecting the Gulf coast," said Commissioner Bush. " These funds will allow the GLO to fund coastal projects targeting the restoration of coastal damage from Hurricane’s Ike and Harvey and enhancing resiliency of the Texas shoreline to prevent future threats. VLB TO HOST TEXAS VETERANS BENEFITS FAIR IN HOUSTON ON MAY 11TH

A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas Veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Houston Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. The fair, targeting all area Veterans, military members and their families, is one of several held throughout the state in 2019. Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, home and home improvement loans, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries for Veterans and military members in Texas. Bush is encouraging Texans to take advantage of the Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday this weekend to be ready in case a natural disaster strikes such as hurricanes, storms, flooding, wildfires and tornadoes. Unaccompanied Veteran Burial to be held at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Tuesday, April 30th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. SHARP, the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SP4 Jack Calvin Burchfield. Born in December of 1938, Burchfield served in the United States Army.Burchfield is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. Cmr. Bush announces results of 2019 Coastal Spring Cleanup

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the 2019 Coastal Spring Cleanup. “The dedication of our community to do more for the environment and the Texas coast is extraordinary,” said Commissioner George P. Bush. “Despite the threat of storms, 4,371 volunteers joined together and removed 47,009 pounds of trash from 143 miles of beaches and bays. Bush announced that on Friday, April 19th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SP4 William Robert Nagel. Nagel served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 and held the rank, SP4.Nagel is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. North Padre Island and Padre Island National Seashore Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup Canceled

Following the drowning of a King High School student on Whitecap Beach, the Texas General Land Office has announced the cancelation of Saturday’s cleanup for the neighboring Padre Island National Seashore and North Padre Island/Padre Balli Park beaches. As authorities attempt to recover the body, the General Land Office has determined that it is in the best interest of our volunteers and the community to cancel the cleanup. Our thoughts are with the King High School family during this difficult time. All other clean up locations will remain in operation unless previously noted. Read More


Veterans at Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veteran Home receive Thrill of Flight experience

On Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation will be taking three Air Force Veterans from Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home up in the air to experience the thrill of flight by riding in the cockpit of a Boeing Stearman, the airplane used to train military aviators in the late thirties and forties.Three Air Force Veterans including a very special 100 year old Air Force Veteran, will fly with the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation out of the San Antonio Stinson Municipal Airport from approximately 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. next week.
