In observance of National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day on May 11, today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is urging Texans to plan for the whole family, including pets, when preparing for severe weather.“Hurricane Harvey devastated communities and left thousands of pets in need of rescue,” said Commissioner Bush. “When severe weather is in the forecast, make sure your pets are prepared by creating an emergency kit. CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF MATAGORDA VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered in Matagorda, Texas. The total number of vessels turned in from both Matagorda and Sargent, Texas tallied 26 vessels for a total of 45 gallons of fuel/oil collected (which was recovered for proper disposal). Read More

May is Preservation Month, and the Alamo is giving the public an inside look into the preservation work taking place on the iconic Church and Long Barrack with a new tour, The Past Revealed. Inspired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s #ThisPlaceMatters campaign, The Past Revealed reminds visitors why we remember the Alamo and why #ThisPlaceMatters. Recent visitors to the Alamo have noticed lifts and other equipment on-site near the walls of the Church and Long Barrack, as the preservation team conducts conservation work like IR scans and multi-spectral imaging. TEXAS GENERAL LAND OFFICE ACQUIRES AND CONSERVES ATLAS OF MAPS MADE BY CAPTAIN ZEBULON M. PIKE

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Texas General Land Office Archives and Records, as part of the agency’s Save Texas History Program, acquired and conserved an important atlas of six printed maps created by U.S. Army Captain Zebulon M. Pike. Published in 1810, the atlas illustrates Pike’s troubled 1806-1807 exploration of the Louisiana Territory, which included the northern boundary of Spanish Texas. Captain Pike’s work greatly contributed to knowledge of the new territory acquired by the United States as well as parts of New Spain. Read More



Cmr. George P. Bush announces GLO amendment reallocating $19 million for flood mitigation projects for communities most impacted by 2016 floods

Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the fourth amendment to the state action plan for the 2016 flood events has been posted for public comment. This amendment reallocates $19 million from the planning activities to instead be used to fund acquisition and/or demolition of real property along with flood and drainage improvements. CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF THIRD ANNUAL CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered in Corpus Christi. The total number of vessels turned in tallied 66 with approximately 80 gallons of waste oil on board (which was recovered for proper disposal). In addition, 31 boat trailers were turned in.
