EXPANSION GRANT AWARDED TO COASTAL BEND TEXAS STATE CEMETERY

Today, Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairman George P. Bush released the following statement celebrating the Department of Veterans Affairs grant to expand the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas. The VA has awarded the VLB a grant of $1,966,125 for 100 percent of allowable costs for the expansion of the cemetery. “The sacrifices made by our United States Military Veterans are impossible for our nation to fully repay, yet we must strive to do everything in our power to come as close as we possibly can,” said Chairman George P. On Tuesday, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush will be visiting Liberty ISD’s treasured “Bookmobile,” along with Liberty Middle School and Liberty Elementary School as a part of his Year of Education initiative. During his visit, Commissioner Bush will tour the interactive, traveling library that offers children a fun way to get excited about reading. At the middle and elementary schools, Commissioner Bush will teach an interactive Texas History Map lesson on cotton, cattle and railways using replicas of restored maps from the General Land Office Archives. UNACCOMPANIED VETERAN BURIAL TO BE HELD AT THE CENTRAL TEXAS STATE VETERANS CEMETERY

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for A1C Ronald Padget Benoto. Born on November 26, 1936, Mr. Benoto served in the United States Air Force from December 2, 1953 to October 3, 1957. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Benoto is not expected to have anyone attend his burial. Read More

Last weekend, Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush was joined by Veterans from all over the nation to honor Medal of Honor recipient, Lance Corporal Richard Anderson. 50 years ago to the very day, “Tex,” as Anderson is endearingly called by friends and family, was killed from the impact of a grenade he covered to save the lives of fellow Marines in the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion in Vietnam. Cmr. George P. Bush statement on HUD issuance of federal rules for mitigation funds

Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released mandatory rules for the use of more than $4.3 billion in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds for mitigation projects. These funds were appropriated by Congress on February 9, 2018, for mitigation projects in the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey as well as 2015 and 2016 Floods. Read More

Born on March 14, 1954, Mr. Boone served in the United States Navy from September 22, 1972 to November 21, 1973. Mr. Boone served as an Aviation Machinist's Mate (Jet Engine Mechanic).
