Success of Homeowner Assistance Program means time and funding running out - apply soon

Today the Texas General Land Office's (GLO) announced the Homeowner Assistance Program's (HAP) successful efforts to rebuild homes is bringing the application process to a quick conclusion. All potential applicants must submit completed applications by December 31, 2019, to be considered for eligibility pending funding availability. Thus far the GLO has approved more than 1,700 applications for construction, with 640 homes currently under construction and 286 completed with keys in the hands of homeowners. Read More

CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF ARANSAS COUNTY VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM EVENT

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered recently in Aransas County, Texas.The total number of vessels turned in from Aransas County, Texas tallied 31 vessels and 12 boat trailers bringing a total of 130 gallons of fuel/oil collected. The fuel/oil was properly disposed. To date, the General Land Office has collected 742 vessels, 1236 gallons of fuel/oil waste, and 73 boat trailers coastwide since the program’s inception. On Saturday, November 9, the Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home will host a Veterans Day parade and cookout. This event is held annually to honor our Veterans on the day set aside to recognize the service and sacrifice of those who have served in our nation's Armed Forces. GEORGE P. BUSH VISITS WALLACE AND GOODNIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL

Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush visited Goodnight Middle School in San Marcos, Texas and Wallace Middle School in Kyle, Texas as part of his 'Year of Education' Initiative.  During his visit, Commissioner Bush taught an interactive Texas history lesson using reproductions of one of Stephen F. Austin’s original maps from the Texas General Land Office archives. VETERANS DAY CEREMONY AT CLYDE W. COSPER TEXAS STATE VETERANS HOME

On November 11, 2019 at 11:00 am, the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home will host a Veterans Day Ceremony and Luncheon. The ceremony will feature Captain Travis Kelly, a decorated Army service member, as a guest speaker. The ceremony will include the posting of the colors by Texoma Composite Squadron-262 Civil Air Patrol, a pledge of allegiance, the singing of the national anthem, and special music performances. Bush visited Rapoport Academy - Quinn Middle School in Waco, Texas as part of his 'Year of Education' Initiative.  During his visit, Commissioner Bush received an up-close and personal look at Rapoport Academy’s state-of-the-art programs. Rapoport Academy’s Meyer High School partners with Connally High School to provide a "Triple Win Apprenticeship" program focused on workforce readiness. UPCOMING ARANSAS COUNTY VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with Aransas County and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Keep Aransas County Beautiful (KACB) to offer Aransas County Texans the opportunity to remove inoperable and derelict vessels through the Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) free of charge. Designed to provide owners with a voluntary method of disposal, interested boat owners are encouraged to participate if the vessel is less than 26 feet long, with longer boats being accepted on a case by case basis. UNACCOMPANIED VETERAN BURIAL TO BE HELD AT CENTRAL TEXAS STATE VETERANS CEMETERY

Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SP4 Whittington. Born on February 5, 1940, Mr. Jack Parker Whittington served in the United States Army from February 16, 1960 to August 5, 1963. SP4 Jack Whittington received a Good Conduct Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle and Pistol).Mr. Whittington is not expected to have anyone attend his burial. Read More
