OVER 5,484 POUNDS OF TRASH COLLECTED AT ANNUAL ADOPT-A-BEACH COASTAL BEND WINTER CLEANUP
On February 8th, 2020, over 350 volunteers participated in the 2020 Annual Adopt-A-Beach Coastal Bend Winter Cleanup and worked together to clean a total of 31.5 miles of beach and bay area. With over 2.74 tons, or 5,484 pounds of trash collected, our Texas beaches are once again clean and beautiful for wildlife and the community alike to enjoy.Some odd items found in the cleanup include a tire, a TV remote, a whole watermelon, bullets, nerdles (micro plastic), and a freezer.The next coast-wide cleanup will take place April 18, 2020. On February 7th, over 300 volunteers participated in the 2020 Annual Adopt-A-Beach South Padre Island Winter Cleanup and worked together to clean a total of 3 miles of beach and bay area. With over 1.31 tons, or 2,620 pounds of trash collected, our Texas beaches are once again clean and beautiful for wildlife and the community alike to enjoy. Tomorrow, February 14, the Ussery Roan Texas State Veterans Home will crown their annual Valentine's Day 'King and Queen' for Veterans residing in the home. This year, a very special couple have been selected to be crowned 'King and Queen.' It's not every day that two people celebrate 74 years of marriage. World War II Veteran, Mr. John Bremer and his wife Glenna Bremer will be crowned Valentine's 'King and Queen' in recognition of their extraordinary number of years together. Read More

Bush announced that on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. SHARP, the Rio Grande Valley Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Mission will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SA George Washington Dorset. Born on February 22, 1935, Mr. Dorset served in the United States Navy from June 15, 1955 to October 3, 1957. Mr. Dorset is not expected to have anyone attend his burial. Bush announced that on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SN Michael Charles Pry. Born on February 11, 1947, Mr. Pry served in the United States Navy from February 11, 1964 to February 9, 1968. He received the National Defense Service Medal.
