Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush helped unveil the Alamo’s newest addition, the Palisade Exhibit. The exhibit, located in Alamo Plaza, replicates the Alamo’s original wooden fortification, where the brave Defenders found protection from a barrage of musket and cannon fire during the siege. The original palisade was constructed in an area of the battleground where there were no stone or adobe walls. Read More

General Land Office Kicks Off 2022 “Treasures of the Texas Coast” Children’s Art Contest
Today, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) kicked off the 2022 “Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest” and is now accepting entries. Students (public, private and homeschool) in grades K-6 are encouraged to submit their own masterpieces. Deadline to submit applications for the Hurricane Harvey Homeowner Assistance Programs in Houston and Harris County extended to 5 pm Dec. 31
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) has extended the deadline to submit applications for the Homeowner Assistance Program (HAP) to 5 p.m. Dec. 31, 2021. All potential applicants must submit draft applications by the deadline to be considered for eligibility so long as funding is available. We encourage the community to remember that applications do not need to be fully complete to be submitted. Once application intake concludes, additional program resources will be dedicated to processing applicants for eligibility, through the permitting process and into construction. Read More

Army Air Forces Veteran Claudia Cantu Requests 100 Cards for her 100th Birthday
Today, Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairman George P. Bush asked the community for help to ensure that World War II Army Air Forces Veteran Claudia Cantu receives at least 100 birthday cards in honor of her centennial birthday. It’s not every day that a WWII Veteran turns 100 years old. Claudia was born in Uvalde, Texas on October 30, 1921 and served in the Army Air Forces from 1942 through 1945.
