Jim Wellman joined the U.S. Army Air Corps at 17 years old in 1943. He was made a gunner aboard a B-24 Liberator bomber and flew 16 missions over Europe. He was training to move to a B-29 when the war ended. Later he went to work for Trans Texas Airways and retired from Continental Airlines in 1985. He now resides in Waco, Texas.
