Mr. Richard Overton, at 109 years of age, is the oldest veteran in the United States. Born on a farm in Bastrop County, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII and saw action in the Pacific Theater. After the war he moved to east Austin and began to work for the state of Texas. In recent time he has traveled to Washington D.C. aboard an Honor Flight in order to visit the WWII Memorial. He has garnered a large share of media attention as the nation's most senior veteran. In his spare time he enjoys smoking cigars and drinking whiskey.
