Edward Bowman, a native of Fannin County, served in the U.S. Army as a radar and radio technician from 1942 through 1945. He saw action at New Guineau, The Philippines, and Leyte Gulf. At one point, he and his radar crew were personally visited by Gen. Douglas MacArthur and the general had coffee with them and congratulated them on the fine work their radar outfit had done.
