AUSTIN, Texas—Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is pleased to share the VLB's successful weekend at Texas's first Fleet Week in Houston, Texas. The VLB Marketing and Outreach team was a part of the Veterans Benefits Village during the Fleet Week Expo at POST Houston on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, and set up a booth at the Exhibition at Sylvan Beach in La Porte on Sunday.
"During Fleet Week, we highlight the contributions of the U.S. Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard over 250 years of proud military history. There is truly no greater act of service than stepping up to fight for your country, and it was an honor to serve those who have sacrificed so much in the name of security and freedom during Fleet Week in Houston," said Commissioner Buckingham. "The VLB offers the most comprehensive package of benefits in the country to Veterans, Military Members, and their families. I look forward to continuing this legacy of care in the best state in the nation for Veterans to live, work, and raise a family."

The week-long event featured a parade of ships, boat tours, concerts, aviation exhibits, an opportunity for Veterans to learn about their amazing state, federal, and local benefits, and much more. During the two-day Fleet Week Expo, VLB was joined by the Texas Veterans Commission, the Harris County Veterans Services Department, VA VetCenter, and NextOp, bringing a wealth of resources to hundreds of Veterans, military members, and their families.
At the Exhibition at Sylvan Beach, VLB staff brought resources to the hundreds of Veterans and military families enjoying the Navy Band performances, the United States Coast Guard, United States Navy, and U.S. Marines' one-day showcase of their equipment and abilities. VLB was honored to attend, and we look forward to future Fleet Week events in Texas.
