AUSTIN, Texas— Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for residents at the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville. The home, which opened in 2000, is a long-term care residence with specialized memory support that can accommodate up to 160 eligible Veterans, spouses, and Gold Star Parents in Texas.
The Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville is named after former San Antonio Major Frank M. Tejeda, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Tejeda served from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. Through his actions in combat he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Tejeda served as a State Representative in the Texas House of Representatives from 1977 to 1987 and then in the Texas Senate from 1987 until 1993.
In 1992, Tejeda was elected to the United States House of Representatives and served in Congress from 1993 to 1997. During his time in the 103rd Congress, Congressman Tejeda fought for the rights of Veterans by successfully passing legislation to expand educational benefits and health care access for Veterans.
Our Texas State Veterans Homes (TSVH) are Texas-owned and regulated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VLB has an on-site representative in each home to ensure our distinguished long-term residents get the best possible care.
Located in the Floresville area, the Frank M. Tejada TSVH serves a tightly knit community with a long history of championing Veterans.
