San Antonio Bay Bird Island Habitat Restoration Construction Project

Project Description

In San Antonio Bay, nesting populations of colonial waterbirds have declined significantly due to the loss of suitable island nesting habitat. Most existing rookery islands in the bay show varying degrees of degradation from erosion and other environmental stressors, with only a limited number of viable nesting sites remaining. This highlights a critical need to restore rookery island habitat and support the long-term survival of the affected bird populations. Construction costs were estimated based on the 30% design and informed by cost data from the Dickinson Bay Bird Island project. Project partners will continue to refine the design to ensure costs are reasonable and align with project goals.
