Preserve and Enhance the Resilience of Bayside Wetlands on Mustang Island

Project Description

The Grantee will use Coastal Management Program Cycle 29 Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funds to identify strategies and solutions for long-term restoration. This will be achieved through (1) a literature review of existing studies, surveys, and models to determine the area(s) of greatest need and opportunities for long-term restoration benefits, (2) development of sediment transport model to predict barrier island geomorphological changes, (3) preliminary assessment of present and anticipated future conditions of Mustang Island, (4) development of a Resilience Master Plan that presents recommended strategies and projects in a phased and strategic management vision that could be adopted by relevant stakeholders. The Project Team (defined as the Grantee and its Subcontractors, collectively) will work to identify appropriate stakeholders at the beginning of the Project, ensure connections are established with existing and emerging regional management strategies and initiatives that are relevant to the Project area, and incorporate stakeholder input in the development of the Mustang Island Resilience Master Plan.
