Modernizing Texas Beach Watch Technology System

Project Description

The Beach Watch program will use Coastal Management Program Cycle 26 Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funds to modernize the Beach Watch system and expand its capabilities to allow predictive modeling which will provide real-time, modeled information for the beach patron. Predictive modeling will analyze precipitation, near-shore currents, wind, and other data and provide real-time information to the user. Upgrades would also allow for cell phone text notifications and improvements in data viewer mapping, location, and related geospatial services. Supplemental data collected through the program’s Field Observation Form will also be integrated into one database and made available for query and manipulation. Beach Watch staff will engage ETS experts to identify the actions needed to resolve these issues and develop a new web-based application.
