Hydrologic monitoring and modeling to aid restoration of the Welder Flats Marsh for Whooping Cranes

Project Description

Texas A&M AgriLife Research (“AgriLife” or “Grantee”) will use Coastal Management Program (CMP) Cycle 27 Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funds to conduct hydrologic monitoring and data collection as well as GIS landcover analysis for the Welder Flats region. Monitoring and landcover change results will be used to aid in subsequent engineering design of culverts and water control structures that will be separately funded and constructed by Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program (CBBEP). AgriLife will also conduct modeling for pre- and post-hydrologic restoration to ensure that the primary restoration goal (to hydrologically reconnect the east and west salt marshes) will be met and ensure that negative effects do not occur in the surrounding areas.
