Cameron County Beach Access #3 Accessibility Infrastructure

Project Description

The Grantee will use CMP Cycle 29 Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funds to complete Phase 2 of the project which will include the construction of (1) an American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant dune walkover that would allow proper access from the parking lot to the beach¬, (2) an ADA-compliant sidewalk, and (3) a parking lot with permeable paving system. This project is shovel ready; the Grantee obtained a Beachfront Construction Certificate and Dune Protection Permit from Cameron County in September of 2022 and will file for a building permit prior to construction. At its completion, Beach Access #3 will provide additional public parking spaces and a dune walkover that allows public access to the beach, police surveillance, seasonal lifeguards and beach patrol, and portable restrooms. In addition, these improvements will help to achieve the goals of the Coastal Parks Master Plan.
