The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home announced our Veterans participation in Beyond the Battlefield/The Tiegen Foundation’s “Warrior Weekend”, on Friday, June 21, 2019. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home. The event will begin with a ceremony, the singing of the National Anthem by Donavan Lee and a Patriotic Skydive by Nathan Moore. A cookout for our Veterans and their families will follow. Read More

Bush announced that on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SP4. Thomas Joe Quinn. Born in January of 1944, Thomas Joe Quinn served in the United States Army from 1962 - 1965. Quinn has received the following awards: Good Conduct Medal; Expert Badge (M-14 Rifle).Quinn is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. Bush announced that on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for James Leon Rimmer. Born in July of 1952, James Leon Rimmer served in the United States Marine Corps from 1972 - 1987.Rimmer is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. This June, in observance of National Pet Preparedness Day Month, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is urging Texans to plan for the whole family, including pets, when preparing for severe weather. “Hurricane Harvey devastated communities and left thousands of pets in need of rescue,” said Commissioner Bush. “When severe weather is in the forecast, make sure your pets are prepared by creating an emergency kit. Include items such as adoption information papers, collars and leashes, medicine, and pictures of you and your pet together. Read More

As the 2019 Hurricane Season begins, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is once again calling on acting White House chief of staff and current Office of Management and Budget (OMB) director, Mick Mulvaney, to lift the logjam obstructing $4.3 billion in mitigation funds owed to Texas. In a second letter to Mulvaney, Bush expresses frustration at the slow pace of rule approval and the need for the funds to be released immediately."The 2019 hurricane season is upon us, and Texans are still no more protected than they were before Hurricane Harvey hit in 2017," said Commissioner Bush. VLB to host Texas Veterans Benefits Fair in Harlingen on June 8th
A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas Veterans will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at the VA Health Care Center at Harlingen. The fair, targeting all area Veterans, military members and their families, is one of several held throughout the state in 2019.Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) will be on hand to provide information on state programs including land, home and home improvement loans, as well as Texas State Veterans Homes and Cemeteries for Veterans and military members in Texas.
