AUSTIN, Texas— Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) has awarded 14 coastal counties with approximately $84.6 million for improvement projects through its Coastal Management Program (CMP) Grant Cycle 31 and Coastal Erosion Planning and Response Act (CEPRA) program Cycle 14. Commissioner Buckingham made these announcements at a series of check presentations in Corpus Christi and Brownsville on Tuesday.
“As someone who spent more than a decade living on the Texas coast, ensuring our communities, wildlife, and their habitats are safe and thriving is of utmost importance,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “I am honored to bring this much-needed funding to our coastal communities for these beneficial projects. By dedicating this crucial assistance to these impactful projects, the GLO is ensuring our Texas coast will continue to thrive and remain resilient for generations to come."
Commissioner Buckingham presented checks in Corpus Christi to the Airport and Channel Corporation, Aransas County, Calhoun County, City of Corpus Christi, City of Ingleside on the Bay, City of Port Lavaca, City of Rockport, the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program, Refugio County, Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, The Nature Conservancy Texas, and the University of Texas - Marine Science Institute while announcing a new round of GLO Coastal Resources Project Funding
CMP projects receive grant money from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funding along with a partner match. These projects include work that ranges from preserving coastal habitat through land acquisition, restoring habitat through invasive species removal, improving coastal water quality management, and increasing beach access opportunities for the public.
Commissioner Buckingham presented checks in Brownsville to Cameron County, City of Starbase, City of South Padre Island, Willacy County and the Willacy County Navigation District while announcing a new round of GLO Coastal Resources Project Funding
CEPRA projects are focused on addressing coastal erosion concerns, implementing work that supports erosion reduction including beach nourishment, dune restoration, shoreline stabilization, habitat restoration, and erosion investigations. CEPRA projects are funded with money from the Texas Legislature, Texas Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and GOMESA along with partner match

The new CMP Cycle 32 funding opportunity will open for application solicitation on March 1, 2026. The CEPRA funding opportunity will open again in March 2027.
