Assessing Changes in Natural and Restored Dunes on Upper and Central Texas

Project Description

University of Houston will (1) continue to monitor the impact of major storms on Texas barrier islands and (2) assess different dune restoration techniques. Specifically, the Subrecipient will analyze new data from repeat drone surveys of previously scanned sites and conduct drone surveys of new sites, for a total of nine Project sites. These sites include natural and restored dunes, habitats for several rare species, and recreational areas. The goals of the Project are (1) to measure the erosion and recovery of vegetation and dunes following major storms on the upper and central Texas coast and (2) evaluate the effectiveness and potential impacts of various dune restoration and stabilization techniques.
